MSC CRUISES RECOGNIZED WITH FOUR GOLD TRAVEL WEEKLY MAGELLAN AWARDS

10/16/2023

Geneva, Switzerland – October 16, 2023 MSC Cruises has been recognized by industry leading news outlet Travel Weekly for key accomplishments in its ongoing U.S. and global expansion efforts. The world’s third-largest and fastest growing cruise line won four Gold Travel Weekly Magellan Awards for its exclusive private island, contemporary ship design and work in cruise marketing, as judged by a panel of the industry’s top leaders and professionals.

In the Cruise Overall – Private Island category, MSC Cruises won the gold for Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas. Ocean Cay is a gorgeous oasis founded on a strong commitment to the conservation of marine life. The reserve consists of a 100-acre island surrounded by 64 square miles of protected waters. Ocean Cay was recently declared a Mission Blue 'Hope Spot,' denoting the MSC Foundation’s extensive efforts to restore the former sand extraction site and help the surrounding ecosystem continue to rebound.

MSC World Europa was awarded gold in the Cruise Overall - Contemporary Ship category. The vessel set a new standard for cruising when she entered service in November 2022. At 22 decks tall and more than 150 feet wide, she is the largest ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet and is also the company’s first to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Offering an incredible 20 bars and lounges, 13 dining venues, and a 350-foot-long outdoor World Promenade, MSC World Europa is the most energy-efficient large cruise ship.

In the Cruise Marketing - Campaign-Communication/PR Plan category, MSC Cruises was awarded gold for the brand’s New York City takeover showcasing its expansion in the U.S. The multi-level communication plan strategically increased awareness of MSC Cruises’ third U.S. homeport in New York City with the christening of MSC Seascape and an onboard media event when the ship arrived to the Big Apple.

MSC Cruises also received gold in the Cruise Marketing - TV Commercial category for its “Discover the Future of Cruising” advertising campaign—the first in the industry to focus primarily on a brand’s sustainability commitment. The advertising promotion has spanned the globe, drawing worldwide attention to MSC Cruises’ continued efforts towards sustainability and making them central to the company’s engagement with consumers and travel partners.

The Travel Weekly Magellan Awards honor the best in travel with a broad range of industry segments, including Hotels and Resorts, Travel Destinations, Cruise Lines, Online Travel Services, Airlines and Airports, Travel Advisors and Agencies, Tour Operators and Car Rental.
