TV series Building Giants follows the construction of MSC Meraviglia at STX France, one of the most advanced cruise ships in the world
MSC Meraviglia episode will air Monday 7th May, 9pm
Award-winning cruise ship MSC Meraviglia will be the star of the new series, Building Giants, on More4. The 60 minute episode dedicated to MSC Meraviglia and filmed at STX France is set to air on Monday 7th May at 9pm.
Built from 35,000 tonnes of steel, stretching 1,036 feet and with the ability to carry over 5,700 passengers, the episode will follow the cruise ship’s construction from 50 separate sections, the installation of 2,200 cabins, and the installation of the longest LED Sky Screen ever built on a ship. The 60 minute episode dedicated entirely to the construction of MSC Meraviglia showcases the skill and maritime expertise required in both designing and building industry-leading innovative cruise ships with shipyard partner STX France, and follows the expert on-site teams as they bring the ship to life.
MSC Meraviglia was the first MSC Cruises next-generation ship to come into service last June as part of a €10.5billion investment plan. Also under construction at STX France as part of the ambitious growth plan are sister ships MSC Bellissima, and MSC Grandiosa, the first Meraviglia-Plus ship to be built. MSC Cruises will introduce three innovative prototypes the Meraviglia class, Seaside Class and World Class and 12 new ships in just 10 years.
Speaking about MSC Meraviglia’s inclusion in the series, Antonio Paradiso, Managing Director, MSC Cruises UK & Ireland commented: “To have MSC Meraviglia as one of the featured builds in this popular programme is testament to the world class naval architects and engineers that build our ships. The show recognises how we are eading the way in the design and build of modern ships for the future, and we are proud we to showcase this process to a UK audience. This also shows the appetite that exists in the UK for the cruise industry and we are delighted to once again feature in a popular TV series that helps to demonstrate what makes our brand so unique.”
Since her Christening in June 2017, thanks to her industry leading-design and impressive onboard features, MSC Meraviglia has been the star of the small screen on several occasions including featuring in BAFTA and NTA nominated programme, ‘Cruising with Jane McDonald’ and Discovery Channel’s Mighty Ships.
MSC Meraviglia’s sister ship MSC Bellissima will be christened in Southampton in March 2019, giving the UK and Ireland a chance to be the first to discover this new addition to the fleet. As part of the celebrations over 3,000 UK & Irish travel agents and members of the public will be invited to visit the ship in Southampton in three days of celebrations.
